The Cupcake Balaclava is knitted from the top down in lace structure. First, a square is knitted for the top of the head, then stitches are picked up along the short sides of the square. The rest of the balaclava is then worked back and forth on a circular needle before the work is joined, and ribbing is knitted in the round. Turning rows with decreases are worked at the back of the neck to provide a better fit.
Note that the balaclava is more stretchy due to the lace structure.
